Donating food or money to the North Texas Food Bank in place of community service hours is offered through the court/probation system. It is up to your individual probation office/court to approve this option and to determine the equivalency between a donation of food/money and the correct number of community service hours.

If your court/parole officer or other community service contact has approved food donations in place of community service hours, you must make your donation in person, at our Perot Family Campus' HEB Canned Food Drop Off door. An NTFB staff member or volunteer will assist you and provide a receipt of your donation.

If your court/parole officer or other community service contact has approved monetary donations in place of community service hours, you must make your donation with cash or money orders in person. Checks and debit or credit cards are not accepted. Bring your cash or money order donation to the receptionist in the lobby of our Perot Family Campus and they will provide a receipt for your donation.

All volunteers contribute to our mission and our community. The Food Bank offers opportunities for individuals to volunteer and fulfill court-appointed service hours. You can learn more about these opportunities below.

All volunteers contribute to our mission and our community. The Food Bank offers opportunities for individuals to volunteer and fulfill court-appointed, pre-trial diversion, or probation service hours, or required hours for any other reason (school, service organization, etc.). You can learn more about these opportunities below.

If you are completing community service hours through a court system (that is not Travis County Adult Probation), through a pre-trial diversion program, or if you have any other mandated community service hours to fulfill, you may complete your hours volunteering with the Food Bank if your offense is not any of the following.

You may be able to donate funds in lieu of completing hours. To do this, you must be in compliance with the terms of your probation and your Probation Officer must initiate a referral for you to become eligible. Please talk to your Probation Officer for eligibility.

You may complete community service hours by volunteering in our Warehouse, Kitchen, or Garden. Only hours worked in one of these three programs are eligible for community service credit with TCAP. You will not receive TCAP credit for Mobile Food Pantry or other volunteer program hours.

Tell the Volunteer Engagement staff member at the check-in desk that you are here for your first day of TCAP volunteer service. We will verify that you are eligible to volunteer and ensure your account is correctly configured so that your hours are reported to TCAP. If you do not verify your registration, your volunteer hours may not be reported to TCAP.

Hours completed in our Warehouse, Kitchen, and Garden are tracked in your volunteer account. We report these hours on a weekly basis to TCAP, so there will be a delay from when you complete the hours to when your Probation Officer sees them.
